Residents in Stretford were delighted when brass bands Mr Wilson’s Second Liners and Twisted Tubes put on a surprise performance on Sunday, December 20.
The event was organised by Culture Champions Trafford and the Friends of Stretford Public Hall for a Christmas concert with a twist. Bands went out into the community, walking past homes in the area, which included a few sheltered accommodations run by Trafford Housing Trust, one resident said it was “nice and loud as a Brass Band should be!”
Families came to their front doors and windows to watch the bands, the music spread festive joy and was really uplifting, which is just what people needed at this time, one listener said “this just saved my Christmas”.
The weather was a bit of challenge, so they had to adjust the routes slightly but as soon as the rain stopped the show went on.
Jessica Loveday, Culture Champions Trafford Project Coordinator, said: “It was so special to see big smiles on people’s faces, all generations enjoying the music and dancing on their doorsteps and in the parks.
“When we can get back to a degree of normality, we will definitely be having more brass band events, it was so well received by the community and we hope to be inviting people through our doors 2021.”
