Bury reporter: David McLenachan

I was born in Bury and came back many years later having lived in Glasgow, Perth, Nottingham & Toronto. I managed a full working life in one business services company and elected to retire early in 2014. I’m long time married to Katryna who is a therapist, and our son Tom is a Civil Servant in Westminster.

I’ve enjoyed the best years of my life since retirement and live life to the full. I’ve been lucky enough to travel extensively all my life but upped the ambition by adventurous exploits more recently (Everest Base Camp trek, crossing India, exploring Palestine, coast to coast across the USA, and likewise Canada & Australia). At home I keep myself very occupied by numerous volunteering roles (Music, arts, festivals, sports, education, health, nature). My passions are music (An extensive collection, and endless live gigs), football (Long-time season ticket holder) and photography (davidmclenachan.com). I’m just starting a higher level course at college.

I enthusiastically take up the unexpected opportunities: Proudly contributing to a new registered charity supporting rural Ugandan life (equalaqua.org) which now occupies me in a totally new direction. I have played the Cajon and percussion in a band, with my limited ability, likewise in a male choir!
