Face masks made mandatory in UK again as major statement looms

The Home Secretary Sajid Javid is set to make a major statement today on the UK’s new Covid variant.

Six new cases of the Omicron variant have been confirmed in the UK this morning.

From tomorrow (Tuesday, November 30) face coverings will be compulsory again in shops and on all public transport, unless you are already exempt from wearing one.

All travellers arriving into the UK from 4am on Tuesday will be required to take a PCR test and self isolate until they have received a negative test result.

People who are confirmed with the Omicron variant will have to isolate for 10 days, regardless of vaccination status.

Sajid Javid’s statement is due this afternoon in the House of Commons and is expected to outline further rules which MPs will have a chance to vote on within a 28 day period.
