Grow Old Gracefully

Manchester-based poet Mark Quinn (otherwise known as The Mancunian Poet) has shared this exclusive poem with Talking About My Generation, which will be featured in his next book.

The face looking back was not mine,

the face looking back did not shine.

The face looking back was grey and old,

the face looking back was me, I was told.

Apparently I’m getting old!

The face in the mirror was not cold.

The face in the mirror was warm and cheerful.

The face in the mirror was no longer tearful.

The face in the mirror was not fearful.

Looking back that face was me

and in a way it’s set me free.

For that beautiful face is me.
