Manchester

Manchester-based poet Mark Quinn (otherwise known as The Mancunian Poet) has shared this exclusive poem with Talking About My Generation, which will be featured in his next book.

Cotton mills from years ago

to dancing in The Ritz.

The city got hit in the war

with the German blitz.

The Ship Canal,

the River Irwel winding through the city.

The Evening News goes on sale

whilst The Arndale Centre gets busy.

We all sat down in the Haçienda

and had a Happy Monday,

and listened to Oasis on a Bank Holiday Sunday.

This is the Mancunian Way,

a City United.
