A NEW service for family carers supporting loved ones living with dementia has launched in Bolton.
Empowered Carers provides one-to-one support to people of all ages who are caring for someone with dementia – whether they are a spouse, sibling, son, daughter, or grandchild – either online or telephone so that people can access the support from the comfort of their own home.
The service will be led by Rachel Yates Hoyles, who has been a part of the Empowered Carers team for 4 years. She will be supported by a team of three newfacilitators – Mike Yates, Judith Bower and Vicky Richardson.
Vicky said: “I am very much looking forward to getting started in this role to offer asafe, warm, and accepting space, which completely fits who I am as a person and as a counsellor.
“I have personal experience supporting close family and friends through the difficulties of depression and anxiety, and also, and importantly, over the last three to four years, I have been caring for a close family member living with dementia and have apersonal passion around exploring and supporting individuals and families affected by these difficult challenges, to find more peace and connection together.
“Having a personal understanding of the many challenges I encountered, I am overjoyed to be able to help other individuals find their own ways to live better and connect with their loved ones living with dementia.”
Empowered Carers has been able to move its work into Bolton following on from the success of the service in Salford and with funding from the lottery.
Rachel added: “We are delighted to be moving our work into Bolton and reaching more carers in need. Carers will be paired up with one of our experienced and compassionate team members, who offer a safe and non-judgemental confidential space for carers to talk about their everyday challenges. A space to explore how carers may feel through the different transitions of caring and discuss their own wellbeing.”
