Review: Vegan Shack Manchester – “It’s the proper job!”

Our vegan reporter Mark Quinn heads down to the Vegan Shack in Manchester to test out the meat-free goodies on offer and chat to the staff about their inspirations behind opening the shop.

You wouldn’t believe what I tasted this week. I was out shopping in Manchester City Centre with my good lady wife and we decided to pop into One Piccadilly Gardens – the home of Vegan Shack.

We have been vegan for many years now and have tasted most vegan fast foods around our great city, but Vegan Shack is something else.

This five star hygiene-rated, plant-based fast-food restaurant is doing exactly what it says on the tin, making delicious plant-based fast food at affordable prices to the people of Manchester  and in a few years time, nationally around the UK.

Vegan Shack have been trading now for three years in different locations in the Manchester area, but One Piccadilly is the next step in their exciting future.

The owners are vegan and have been for five years and they told me, “Our inspiration for starting Vegan Shack was to create accessible and affordable vegan fast-food without compromising on the ingredients.” Boy oh boy have they accomplished that goal!

Founder Dimeji Sadiq and his girlfriend Saffron. Dimeji started the business in his one-bedroom apartment in Salford.

The staff are knowledgeable and very friendly, knowing the ingredients and the allergies in all the food they serve. The green colouring of the decor and the big encouraging sign ‘100% Plant-Based’ is a trusting sight for vegan eyes – I can tell you! It is so refreshing to go into a restaurant and NOT have to ask, ‘Is it vegan?’

The menu is easy to navigate and they have a saver menu over dinner time that is very well-priced. Portion sizes are generous and satisfying.

They have a varied age-range as their customer base including a lot of mature patrons that are very loyal to Vegan Shack and some of them are meat-eaters!

I myself am one of those mature customers and when I popped in I had the Veganuary Special ‘Loaded Cheeseburger Fries’ and an iced oat-milk coffee – they were delicious. The owner’s favourite is on their saver menu – a simple classic Cheeseburger.

After a meal at Vegan Shack I guarantee you will be feeling well-fed and ready for anything Manchester City Centre can throw at you…it’s the proper job!
