Wigan residents share how COVID-19 has impacted their lives

Age UK Wigan Borough has explored how the Covid19 pandemic is impacting the lives of over 50s in Wigan during 2020 – and produced a full report of recommendations on how local services can work together to improve.

The research explored:

● Impact of Covid on physical and mental wellbeing

● Connectivity – capacity and challenges

● Community – capacity and challenges

● Experience of the health system

● Communications and voice of older people

● Worries and unexpected benefits

The report provides a number of short, medium and long term recommendations to ensure over 50s can thrive throughout the lifetime of the pandemic.

John McArdle, chief executive of Age UK Wigan Borough says: “The report highlights some of the issues affecting older people as the pandemic was underway including difficulties accessing primary care health services and the sense that they weren’t able to have their voices heard. This report seeks to make their voices heard.”
